Rainwater and greywater work, from roof to garden

Every job starts with the roof's footprint and where you want the water to go. We size from that, then draw it before we dig.

  • Rain tanks

A tank sized from your roof and local rainfall, on a level pad with a screened inlet, overflow and spigot.

    • Sized from the roof footprint

    • Pad, inlet screen, overflow, spigot

    • Gravity or pump feed to drip

  • Gutters and downspouts

New gutter where an eave has none, re-pitched runs, and downspouts turned to a tank or a basin.

    • Leaf screens on every run

    • First-flush diverters

  • Laundry to landscape

Your washer's water goes to mulch basins around trees. No storage tank and no pump, and a valve switches it back to the sewer.

    • Three-way valve you can reach

    • Mulch basins, not surface spray

    • A soap list for the laundry room

  • Rain basins and dry creeks

Beds shaped to hold a storm for a few hours, river-rock channels, and a clear way out for the overflow.

    • Planted for low water

    • Overflow never aimed at a neighbor

  • Drip from the tank

Drip lines to trees and beds, on a timer or a valve you open, matched to how much the tank holds.

    • Filter before the emitters

    • Zones sized to the tank

  • A check before the rainy season

We clear screens and the first-flush diverter, check the pad and overflow, and top up basin mulch. October is the month to book it.

A rain year

What the work looks like through a San Diego year

October

Roof visit, sizing and permits. Tanks and gutters go in now, before the first storm of the season.

November to March

The rainy season. Tanks fill a little with each storm. We check overflow lines after the first heavy rain.

April to May

Clean screens, flush the diverter and set the drip timers for the dry months.

June to September

Dry season. The tank and the washer's water carry the garden between hose days.

Questions

Questions about the work

Can I add a tank to an old house?

Usually. We need a place for a level pad near a downspout, and gutters in sound shape. We tell you at the visit if the fascia or roof edge needs repair first.

What water can go to the garden from the house?

Washing machine water is the simple one. Showers and bathroom sinks are possible with a permit. Kitchen sink and dishwasher water stay on the sewer.

Do tanks attract mosquitoes?

Every opening gets a fine screen, including the overflow, and the lid stays closed. We show you how to check the screens each spring.

Where do I read how pricing works?

On the home page, under How pricing works. It lists what moves the number and what the estimate leaves out.

Start with the roof

Send the town and a photo of the gutters. We'll tell you what we'd measure at the visit.
